The Patient Safety Service and Leadership Award recognizes an individual, group, or program that shows exemplary service and has gone above and beyond to improve patient safety within his or her organization.

PAST WINNERS:  

  • 2016  -  Shelby Morse 
    • Shelby Morse’s commitment to patient safety and employee engagement has helped the Elkhart General Hospital patient safety committee grow to one of the most involved committees in the hospital. Bringing LEAN and TeamSTEPPS to the hospital, Shelby has engaged staff at all levels in multidisciplinary improvement teams and collaborative teamwork.   
  • 2017 - Cheryl Lee 
    • Since 2014, Cheryl Lee has been a champion of patient-centered care and led the development of the safe pain management program for the emergency department at Indiana University Health Paoli Hospital. As a Pain Resource Nurse, Lee is dedicated to identifying at-risk patients and navigating them through treatment options. She has also been a resource to her team and provides hospital-wide education for staff and providers to ensure adherence to the opioid prescribing policy.
  • 2018 - Tim Hobbs, MD, MBA
    • ​Dr. Time Hobbs, Executive Vice President for Clinical Transformation at Community Health Network, received the 2018 Patient Safety Service & Leadership Award for over forty years of advancing quality improvement within health care. As Community Health Network's Executive Vice President for Clinical Transformation, Dr. Hobbs has led a network-wide approach to safety and quality improvement efforts from the Board of Directors to front line providers. Dr. Hobbs' efforts have created hardwired processes that have engaged caregivers in developing systems based improvements to advance patient care, reduce unnecessary costs, and save lives.
