IHA Recognizes Health Care Leaders, Names 2016 Board of Directors

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Hospital Association presented its two highest awards last week at the 2015 IHA Annual Membership Meeting, Nov. 10 - 12. Dan Evans, Jr., president and CEO of Indiana University Health in Indianapolis, received the IHA Distinguished Service Award for outstanding achievement and dedication to his organization, its patients, the community and the profession. The Distinguished Service Award is IHA’s highest honor for a hospital chief executive officer.

“Dan has made significant contributions to the health care industry in Indiana through his leadership over the IU Health system and within IHA,” said Doug Leonard, IHA president. “His guidance and collaboration have been invaluable to our association, and for that, we are proud to present him with the IHA Distinguished Service Award.”

Jim McIntire, executive vice president at the Indiana State Medical Association, received the IHA Award of Merit for his exemplary service to health care. This award is given to an individual, other than a hospital CEO, who has made noteworthy contributions to the health care field and has demonstrated a devotion to the interests and goals of hospitals and the humanitarian services they provide.

“Jim’s inspired leadership and his intention to maintain a great relationship between the physicians and hospitals in Indiana has made him a deserving candidate for this award,” Doug Leonard stated. “I appreciate his efforts and contribution to the success of our organization.”

In addition, IHA presented its Stella Scholarship Award to Ellery Steele, a student in the Indiana University MHA program. The Ken and Cindy Stella Scholarship Fund in Health Administration honors the Stellas for their contributions to the work of Indiana hospitals and offers financial support to students in the graduate program in health administration at Indiana University. To date, the scholarship has raised $422,000 through generous contributions to the fund and active participation in the annual golf benefit. Since 2007, the scholarship has awarded $170,000.

“From current professionals working in health care to the future health care leaders of tomorrow, education is at the heart of what we as an association do for our members,” said Ken Stella, IHA president emeritus. “And thanks to the many contributions from members, students will have a greater opportunity to contribute to the health care profession.”

The Indiana Hospital Association also appointed the 2016 IHA Board of Directors, including Chairman Bryan Mills, president and CEO of Community Health Network in Indianapolis, Chairman-elect Robert Brody, senior VP/COO, Franciscan Alliance, Mishawaka/Carmel and Secretary-Treasurer Kreg Gruber, COO, Beacon Health Network in South Bend.

“Thanks to the leadership, commitment and collaboration of our IHA Board of Directors, our association is a leader amongst hospital associations across the nation,” said Leonard. “I look forward to working together in 2016 to continue advancing this collaborative spirit to advocate for Hoosier hospitals and patients.”
